ProjectSight currently includes a submittal package feature, but based on discussions we have had with Trimble personnel, it appears this feature is not widely used and is often recommended to be turned off to avoid confusion. This represents a significant missed opportunity, as submittal packages could be a very powerful organizational tool if implemented more effectively.
In Autodesk Construction Cloud (ACC), submittal packages are handled in a way that avoids confusion and adds real value. When a submittal package is reviewed:
Individual submittals within the package may receive different responses (Approved or Revise and Resubmit)
Only the submittals requiring revision are returned to the submitter
Once revised submittals are approved, the entire package is approved
After approval, users only see the approved submittals within the package; outdated or rejected versions are hidden by default
This behavior closely mirrors how ProjectSight already handles drawing set revisions, where only the most current drawings are visible and superseded sheets are hidden. That same proven logic could be applied to submittal packages.
If implemented this way, submittal packages could provide substantial benefits:
Broader Categorization
Unlike specification sections, which organize submittals abstractly by material or trade, packages allow grouping by tangible project elements such as floors, rooms, phases, or locations.
Enhanced Organization
Grouping related submittals by physical area creates a clearer, more structured way to manage submittals and track progress.
Streamlined Communication
Project teams can immediately understand which part of the project a group of submittals applies to, improving coordination and decision-making.
More Efficient Reviews
Reviewers can focus on specific areas of the project, leading to faster and more thorough reviews.
With improved handling of mixed responses, revision visibility, and approved-only package views, submittal packages could become a highly valuable feature rather than one that users are encouraged to disable.
