Submittal Numbering – Specification-Based Numbering with Revisions

We would like to suggest an enhancement to ProjectSight’s submittal numbering functionality.

In Autodesk Construction Cloud (ACC), submittals can be numbered either consecutively or by specification section, followed by a sequential identifier. For example, the fifth submittal under Section 013526 would be numbered 013526-5.

Revisions to that submittal are then clearly identified using a decimal format, such as:

  • 013526-5.1 – First revision

  • 013526-5.2 – Second revision

This numbering convention provides immediate context and makes it easy to understand both what specification section the submittal belongs to and where it falls in the review history, without opening the item.

By contrast, purely consecutive numbering provides no meaningful context and becomes increasingly difficult to track as projects grow and revisions accumulate.

Specification-based submittal numbering:

  • Improves clarity for reviewers and approvers

  • Makes revisions immediately understandable

  • Aligns with how specifications and submittal registers are organized

  • Matches industry-standard behavior seen in ACC and commonly expected by architects and owners

Providing an option for specification-based submittal numbering with revision suffixes would significantly improve usability with minimal added complexity.
