Coming Soon: On April 2nd, all Suggestion Boxes will be migrating to The Network, Trimble's online user community. Your posts, votes, comments, and user accounts will transfer. This site will become read-only after the migration, and this banner will have a link to the new location for ProjectSight suggestions.

Area Annotation Enhancement

* How Does it Work?

** For the purposes of performing a quick measurement of a basic geometry such as a rectangular room, allow us to drag a rectangle around this geometry to determine the area.

* How would it benefit the User?

** At the moment, users utilize connecting lines to create geometries. Although this is great for complex geometries and accuracy, the vast majority of geometries that need to be annotated and/or estimated are basic shapes or a combination of basic shapes; most notably, rectangles and squares.
** Ex: Let's assume that we need to calculate the area/annotate the area of a wall covering along a corridor wall while excluding any openings (doors) along the wall. If we assume that the corridor wall is a rectangle and the 2 doors are also rectangles, it would take a minimum of (3x) rectangular area measurements to determine the area for the wall covering:

*** 1st Area: Area of Corridor
*** 2nd Area: Area of Door 1
*** 3rd Area: Area of Door 2
*** Wall Covering Area: 1st Area - (2nd Area + 3rd Area)

** Ex Con't: If we were to use the current implementation of the Area annotation tool, it would take exactly (12x) strokes to determine the area of a wall covering for that corridor wall which seems excessive and time-consuming when compared to 3 rectangles.

* Is there a different way to implement this using the current tool set?

** If Trimble adds copy/paste capabilities for custom geometries created by connecting lines, then this could be a temporary fix assuming Trimble moves along with the above suggestion.
